Czech Beef With Czech Dumplings

Ingredients
1 rolled beef roast (6 lbs.)
1 qt. water
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon pickling spices
2 carrots
1 onion
1 pt. sour cream
1 (.6 oz.) pkg. yeast
3/4 cup warm milk
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg
2 slices white bread, cubed

Stir yeast into warm milk, dissolving it. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Remove crusts from bread, cut into 1/2 inch cubes, and mix into dry ingredients. Add well-beaten egg and yeast mixture to half of the dry ingredients and beat well. Add remaining half of dry ingredients. Mix well.
