Five Fruity Ways to Make Creme Brulee

May 25, 2011

Creme Brulee is a classic French dessert.  Nothing beats the sound of the first cracking of the caramelized top into the smooth custard below.  I love the traditional vanilla flavored creme brulee but there is something about the summer and all that fruit that makes me want to mix the two.  The key to making perfect creme brulee is to cook the custard over low heat so your eggs do not scramble.  I like to pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve before separating it into ramekins as an extra precaution.

Orange Creme Brulee
The addition of the orange flavored liquor makes this version extra special.

Blackberry Creme Brulee
Blackberries provide a nice tart balance to the creaminess of the custard.

Banana Creme Brulee
Bananas foster meets creme brulee, a winning combination.

Mango Creme Brulee
Slices of mango make for a nice surprise when taking your first bite.

Coconut Creme Brulee
Some of the heavy cream is replaced with coconut milk, making this dessert even more coco-nutty.
